Hike from Achtal to the summit of the Breitenberg

Starting point: Achtal P2 former customs house

End point: Achtal P2 former customs house

You start your hike at the Achtal P2 car park (former customs house). From here the route leads continuously uphill via the Ostlerforstweg. The incline of the well-developed path starts moderately but becomes steeper and more demanding as you go. Good fitness is required for this hike, as you will cover a total of 820 meters of elevation gain over a distance of 7 km (one way). The last section to the Ostlerhütte runs over paths with loose gravel and requires a certain surefootedness.  

During the ascent, you are repeatedly rewarded with magnificent panoramic views. Gradually the view opens up both to the surrounding Tyrolean mountains and to the wide Alpine foothills. The impressive views more than compensate for the effort of the ascent. 

Once you reach the top, you arrive at the Ostlerhütte on the summit of the Breitenberg. Here you can refresh yourself after the strenuous hike and enjoy a snack or a drink with a grand view of the surrounding peaks. Please pay attention to the hut’s opening hours to plan your stop accordingly.

The return path is via the same way down into the valley. The descent is less strenuous, but surefootedness is still important, as the path is partly steep.
